At Denver City Council's April 29, 2024, meeting, Proclamation 24-0588: Celebrating Whittier ECE-8's 104th Anniversary, was adopted. As council members read the proclamation, Mrs. Greenwood was included as a "Whereas". It read: "Denver's first African American teacher, Marie Anderson Greenwood, taught 1st grade at Whittier Elementary School in 1938. Her success opened the door to many African American teachers in the district."
